Questions people actually ask

The ones that come up most on the phone, answered the way we answer them on the phone.

About this site

Are you an insurance company?

No, and not an agency either. This is an information site: it explains what Florida requires, what each coverage does, and what claims here have actually paid.

What does it cost to use this site?

Nothing. There is no account, no paywall and no email gate on any calculator.

Where do I get the cheapest price?

Nobody in Florida can honestly promise you the cheapest price, and anyone who does is guessing at a rate they have not run. What you can do is know what coverage you actually need before you shop, which is what this site is for.

Do you sell my information?

No. The calculators collect nothing at all, and the one form here asks for an email and two menu choices.

About Florida rules

What does Florida actually require on a car?

$10,000 of personal injury protection and $10,000 of property damage liability. Bodily injury liability is not required, which is why so many claims here end badly.

How long does an SR-22 last?

Normally 3 years from the date the state sets. An FR-44, after a DUI, runs the same length at much higher required limits.

Does homeowners insurance cover flood?

No, not anywhere in the country. Flood is a separate policy and normally has a 30 day waiting period.

What is a hurricane deductible?

A separate deductible expressed as a percentage of your dwelling limit, applied once per calendar year, triggered by a hurricane watch or warning. There is a calculator on this site that puts it in dollars.

About getting covered

How fast can I have proof of insurance?

For most auto policies, the same day once payment clears. Often within the hour.

Can you write me if I do not have a Florida licence?

Often yes, depending on what you hold. There is a page about exactly this case.

My policy was cancelled. Can you help?

Yes, and sooner is much better than later. A short lapse is a rating problem. A long one can affect your registration.

Do I have to come to the office?

No. Phone, WhatsApp and email handle almost everything. You are welcome to walk in if you would rather do it in person.

Money, payments and cancelling

Is it cheaper to pay in full?

Almost always, because the alternative carries a finance charge. We show you both numbers before you choose, and the gap is usually larger than people expect.

What happens if a payment fails?

The carrier issues a notice with a short window to cure it. Do not ignore it: in Florida an auto lapse can reach your registration, and a homeowners lapse can trigger force-placed coverage through your mortgage at several times the price.

Can I cancel mid-term if I find something cheaper?

Yes, and most policies refund the unused premium pro rata. Bring us the other quote first, though, because a cheaper number on different coverage is not a cheaper policy.

How do I read my own declarations page?

Start with three lines: the deductibles, the dwelling limit, and whether the roof settles at replacement cost or actual cash value. The pages on this site explain each of them, and those three decide most of what a claim pays.

Do you take a deposit before you quote?

Never. Nothing is owed until a policy is bound and the carrier issues it.

Claims

Should I report a small claim?

Not always. Under your deductible there is nothing to pay, and the claim still sits on your record for years. We will do that arithmetic with you before you file.

Do I call you or the carrier?

The carrier directly, and tell us at the same time. Their line runs 24 hours and ours does not, and we can pick up what comes next.

How long does a claim take?

Days for a straightforward auto claim, weeks to months for major storm damage. Documentation from the first hours is what shortens it more than anything else.

Will one claim raise my rate?

It depends on fault, size and your history. A not-at-fault claim usually does far less than people fear, and a weather claim on a home is treated differently from a liability loss.

Someone knocked and offered to handle my claim. Should I sign?

Not at the door, and not that day. Send us the document first. Some of those papers hand your entire claim to a stranger.

Work it out before anybody sells you anything

Four calculators that run in your browser, a page for every situation Florida puts people in, and the claims data for your own county. All of it free, and none of it behind a form. The form is for the other half of the job: when you have read enough and want a person on the phone.

Leave a name and a number and a licensed Florida agent gets in touch. No obligation, and no call from six companies you have never heard of.

A licensed Florida agent may call, text or email you about your request.
