Which filing does Florida want from you?
Two certificates, very different requirements, and the wrong guess costs a second filing fee and more delay. Answer three questions.
- Minimum liability it must certify
- Florida's minimum liability, $10,000 property damage, plus $10,000 personal injury protection
- How long you carry it
- 3 years from the date the state sets, not from today
- The policy that carries it
- A policy on your vehicle
Filing fee charged by the carrier, typically $15 to $25. The premium is the real cost and it depends on the conviction.
Have us file itHow this is calculated
Florida uses the SR-22 for general financial responsibility cases and the FR-44 after a DUI conviction, which requires substantially higher liability limits. Both are filed by your insurer with the state and both normally run 3 years. The checker maps your answer to the usual case.
What this cannot know
It cannot see your case file. The state's letter or your case number is the authority on which form applies, on the exact start date, and on whether anything else is outstanding. If they disagree with this page, the state is right.
Work it out before anybody sells you anything
Four calculators that run in your browser, a page for every situation Florida puts people in, and the claims data for your own county. All of it free, and none of it behind a form. The form is for the other half of the job: when you have read enough and want a person on the phone.
