SR-22 and FR-44 in Florida
The state told you to file proof of financial responsibility. Here is exactly what that is, which of the two forms applies to you, and how fast an agent can send it.
Two different forms, and the difference is expensive
An SR-22 certifies that you carry at least Florida's minimum liability. An FR-44 is the version required after a DUI conviction, and it demands far higher limits: 100/300 thousand bodily injury and $50,000 property damage. Both are certificates your insurer files with the state, not policies you buy, and both normally run 3 years from the date the state set. If the policy lapses during that window, the carrier notifies the state and the suspension comes back.
What happens when you call us
We confirm which form
Your case number or the state's letter tells us whether it is SR-22 or FR-44. Guessing here costs you a second filing fee.
Only some carriers accept filings
Not every carrier does, and the ones that do price this risk very differently from each other. That spread is the whole reason to have an independent agency shop a filing rather than taking the first quote.
We bind and file electronically
Same business day in nearly every case. The state receives it directly rather than waiting on paper.
We watch the three years
We flag the policy so a lapse cannot happen quietly, because a lapse restarts the problem you just paid to solve.
What it costs
The filing fee itself is small, usually in the range of fifteen to twenty five dollars charged by the carrier. The real cost is the premium: the conviction that triggered the filing is what re-rates you, and on an FR-44 the higher required limits add to that. Anybody quoting you an SR-22 price without asking what the conviction was is quoting a number they cannot hold.
You can file without owning a car
A non-owner policy satisfies an SR-22 or FR-44 for a person who drives but does not own a vehicle. It is often the cheapest legal path back to a licence. There is a page for it.
Do not cancel the day it ends
Ask the state, not the internet, when your term actually expires. Cancelling a day early is how people end up filing all over again.
What this touches
Questions people actually ask
How fast can you file?
Once payment clears, the same business day in almost every case.
Will my rate ever come back down?
Yes. The surcharge follows the conviction date, not the filing, and it falls off on a schedule the carrier can tell us.
I moved to Florida with an out-of-state SR-22. Now what?
The obligation usually follows you. Call with the other state's paperwork and we will sort out which state needs which filing.
Work it out before anybody sells you anything
Four calculators that run in your browser, a page for every situation Florida puts people in, and the claims data for your own county. All of it free, and none of it behind a form. The form is for the other half of the job: when you have read enough and want a person on the phone.
Leave a name and a number and a licensed Florida agent gets in touch. No obligation, and no call from six companies you have never heard of.
A licensed Florida agent may call, text or email you about your request.
