Akèy / You have a claim. Do this first.

The day something happens

Read this before you need it. The first forty eight hours decide most of what a claim pays, and almost all of it comes down to documentation.

Make it safe, then photograph everything

Before you move anything or start drying anything. Wide shots and close ups, and video walking through. This is the evidence and it cannot be recreated later.

Prevent further damage, and keep the receipts

Your policy requires you to protect the property from getting worse and it pays for reasonable steps you take. Tarps, board up, water extraction. Keep every receipt.

Report it

To the carrier directly, and tell us at the same time. Direct reporting is faster and we can go with you through what comes next. Do not wait for us to open before calling a 24 hour claims line.

Write down who you spoke to

Names, times, claim number. It matters more than people expect.

Do not sign anything a contractor puts in front of you at the door

Especially an assignment of benefits. Read it, or let us read it. There is no repair that has to be signed for in the first hour.

After a hurricane

Your hurricane deductible applies from the moment a watch or warning is issued until 72 hours after the last one ends, once per calendar year. If you already met it earlier in the same year, keep that paperwork, because the second storm falls under your all other perils deductible instead.

About public adjusters

They are licensed, they work for you rather than for the carrier, and they take a percentage. On a large complex loss that can be worth it. On a small claim it usually is not. What matters is that you understand the fee and that you never sign it under pressure.

What we do

We are your agent, not your adjuster. We can explain the coverage, chase a stalled file, tell you what the policy actually says, and tell you honestly when a claim is not covered so you do not spend six weeks finding out slowly.

Work it out before anybody sells you anything

Four calculators that run in your browser, a page for every situation Florida puts people in, and the claims data for your own county. All of it free, and none of it behind a form. The form is for the other half of the job: when you have read enough and want a person on the phone.

Leave a name and a number and a licensed Florida agent gets in touch. No obligation, and no call from six companies you have never heard of.

A licensed Florida agent may call, text or email you about your request.
